Current Lowe’s Military & Veterans Discounts

Despite much debate, complaint, and argument, Lowe’s continues to offer two different discount policies for various military folks.  Unfortunately, there is a lot of confusion about the discount policies, amongst both the military and veteran population and also amongst the Lowe’s staff.

Since most of the Lowe’s staff has never served in the military, it is easy to understand how their own policies can be confusing to them.  Please be kind and don’t be rude to the staff. Honestly, from some of the comments I’ve seen here, I’m surprised they haven’t cancelled the discounts altogether.  Let’s not have that happen because of confusion and frustration.

The official Lowe’s policy, as listed on their website today, explains two different discounts:  military and veteran.  The way that Lowe’s defines military and veteran is the key to understand which discount you might be eligible to receive.  I have copied the section below from the Lowe’s website, with some formatting changes to make it easier to read and understand.

Lowe’s Military Discount

Lowe’s established the 10% Military Discount to support the men and women who are currently serving our country in the Armed Services and to honor retired service members and recipients of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits. This 10% discount is also extended to the immediate family of those eligible for the discount.  Immediate family is defined as the spouse and children under age 18.

To qualify for the Everyday 10% Military Discount, you must:

  • Be currently serving in, or retired from, a qualifying branch of the Armed Services, or be the immediate family member of someone who is and have a valid military ID Card.

Or:

  • Be a veteran who receives VA benefits and have a valid Veteran Identification Card (VIC).

Lowe’s Veterans Discount

Lowe’s honors all Veterans on three specific holidays: Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day. During these three holiday weekends, Lowe’s will offer a 10% to all veterans who served honorably and who present a valid Form DD214 or other proof of service. The discount is extended to the veteran community on these three holidays only.

Exclusions

The military discount and veterans discount must be used on personal purchases only and cannot be used for Lowes.com purchases, previous sales, or the purchase of gift cards or services including product installations. It cannot be combined with the Lowe’s Price Guarantee, or promotions such as “Spend and Get,” “New Mover,” “Project Starter,” “Your Choice,” or discounts such as Quote Support Program (QSP) quotes.

Please, please keep in mind that Lowe’s chooses to give this discount to military and veteran groups.  They don’t have to offer it, and they can decided to change their mind at any time.

If you are going to use the Lowe’s military or veteran discounts, be sure you understand the rules and have the proper identification.  If your local store staff is confused, you can print out their policy or direct them to the Lowe’s website.  The military and veterans discount rules are listed on the “in-store services” page.  Some stores may have local policies that direct them to offer the discount a little more generously, but these are the Lowe’s corporate policies that they are supposed to be following.

    • Bobby

Thank you Lowe’s. I use the Lowe’s in Fayetteville, NC every week at least once or many times more. Being a retired and also disabled veteran, this 10% greatly helps me around my household. This recognition to our military and veteran’s has a tremendous impact on where I shop. You clearly care about us and it shows in your continuous offer of this discount exclusive for us. Thank you very much.

    • Charlie Cox

Thanks to Lowe,s stores. I am a Navy retiree and never had any problem with abstaining the discount! I can not claim the same for the other store!! Shop their all the time.

    • Larry

I served 5 combat tours and served for 28 years. I appreciate any and all recognition for service members as I experienced the other side of the coin returning from Viet Nam in 1968 and 1970. Lowe’s you are getting all of my business and you have for numerous years now. Thank you for the 10% as I do appreciate it!

    • Bob

It is very nice that Lowes and Home Depot honors us veterans and it will only take some jerks complaint that they didn’t get a discount and cause them to stop the program!
I’m a 100% disabled Navy vet and they honor me every time me or my wife shops there!
Than you Lowes and Home Depot!

    thank you lowes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Lowe’s and any other business that offers a discount to veterans, service members, retire’s etc. shhold be THANKED for their support. People are people and not everyone knowns and understands their companies policy/programs. If you ask for a discount and are told no, just say thanks and move on. Do your homework if that 10% means that much to you.
I have never had a problem with Lowes and think that we shoud all reciprocate and thank the business’s for their support of the military past and present members.

Lowes has been great! At H.D. you never know which items you’ll get a military discount on until you pay.

  • Frank

I am retired Army and have been shopping at Lowes for years. I am extremely satisfied with their products and service and grateful to them for acknowledging our service. Thank you Lowes.

  • Cat May

Maybe because I live in a “Navy town”, but both Lowes and Home Depot have automatically scanned the bar code near their registers with just a flash of my “beige card” (husband has been retired for 18+ years) and if my husband is there, he is always thanked for his service. So, we tend to shop at those stores first for things they carry (it’s also especially nice when Discover Card has their 5% cash back for home improvement stores, we always buy our year’s supply of things then). My view is “be good to me and I will gladly be good to you” (and, if you are not a business, but an individual, I will be good to you no matter what.. I’m crazy that way)

  • Charlie Frank

THANK YOU LOWES, I have never had a problem with LOWES . They have a great staff here in Crossville, TN. and always take care of our military & veterans.
We appreciate what you do for us!

  • Bob

I am retired from the Army and a combat vet of Vietnam. My experiences after I returned from Vietnam were less than appreciated for quite some time.. Thank God I have aged to the point where it seems most citizens everywhere thank me for my service . Many retailers seem to be showing their appreciation as well. I’ve shopped at Lowe’s for at least 25 years, but a couple of years ago, a Lowe’s cashier ask me whether I was a military veteran. After I showed her my retired Army ID, she thanked me for my service and immediately lopped 10% from my bill. I was stunned. The simple thanks was quite ample, but the discount was all the more appreciated. I left the store with a glow thinking how could I not shop at such a retailer who offered vets such good will. Since Quantico Marine Corps Base is just a few miles away, I’m betting Lowe’s gets a lot of business from those active duty and retired Marines as well. Thank you, Lowe’s.

I am a widow of an Air Force veteran and have never had a problem at my local Lowe’s where I now do all of my shopping, since the local Home Depot only gives the discount on certain holidays. I always thank them for the discount also.

    • Judith Brumm

Mary, I too am a surviving spouse of a retired Vet. Home Depot has always given me a
10% discount. I use both stores depending on what I need. There has never been an issue from either store. I am very grateful to both stores for their recognition of our service veterans.

  • Dave

Cannot thank Lowes enough for its discount advantage for us vets.

  • Bob

I agree…Lowes doesn’t Have to offer anything, and maybe 10% isn’t going to make a big difference, but the fact that they do offer it to vets shows that they do appreciate us….that 10% is a HELL of a lot more than many, many other retailers offer. Lowes will always be my first choice when shopping for items that they sell.

Lowes doesn’t have to offer anything. However, it speaks tons for the respect and appreciation their corporate people have for the sacrifice we soldiers made to keep this great country free. My thanks are extended to Lowes Leadership. I’m grateful to you for remembering us.

  • Nonie Wilson

Actually had checkout personel remind me of the discount because of my NAVY cap. Thank you for the discount, so many that do not even consider it!

  • Mary

I shop at Lowes many times a month and have never had a problem using my VA(VIC) Card

  • Charna Sansbury

I am also the wife of a retired Air Force personnel but I have experienced that Home Depot has now changed your policy as of February or March 2014. The new policy is there is not a 10% discount on all products storewide only certain items which leads you to be Misinformed when going into get a 10 per cent discount and you have no idea if the item you’re purchasing will be discounted or not therefore I will now only shop at Lowe’s in the future

  • Barbara Miracle

I’m still a little confused. Does Lowes give veterans 10% discount on the listed holidays or anytime with the correct ID? I’ve been told only on memorial day, 4th of July or veterans day and then again with my husbands Veterans ID card he was given the 10% discount. Which is correct? Barbara Miracle

    • Kurt

Active duty and Retirees are (generally) eligible for the anytime 10%. Individuals who have served in the military but did not retire, through TIS or medically, are only eligible for the discount on selective dates. Hope this explanation helps.

  • Dee

I’m so thankful and appreciate Lowe’s for recognizing the current U.S. troops and the retired military personnel. Thank you for showing your appreciation and for allowing a 10% discount . We shop there often and it sure does help! Lowe’s, be proud about what you offer! Thanks again.

  • M Lynn

I thank Lowe’s for the discount and show my appreciation by shopping there first for merchandise they carry.

I am pushing 80 and 10% means a lot to me. I am very grateful to Lowe’s for their policy. Like many who have noted I have never had a problem using my VA card. Thank you Lowes.

  • Bob M

As a retired NCO 37 years ago, I’m very happy with Lowe’s and there 10% discount. In Sept of this year they had a snowblower on sale with 15% off if it was bought during a certain time. I bought it and also got another 10% off with my retired I.D. Card. Is this a great country or what.

  • jskrafts

Lowe’s helped my husband who is a veteran with redoing his shower after his stroke there is not a better place around. thanks to them he is not having any trouble any more.

  • jeremiah herlihy

lowe’s policy for retired and disabled veterans is different than the one for regular veterans. regular veterans don’t have an I.D. card to show the cashier. so on the three holidays when lowes extends the discount to them they are supposed to show their DD214. the problem is lowes never seems to explain this policy to their cashiers. i always have to hold up people in line while they call a manager who something doesn’t know the policy either. now i carry a printout of their own policy to explain it to their employees.
