Usually, I would be posting about the next payday, as it is one week from 15 October 2013. However, I’m a little hesitant to do the regular post, as things are so up-in-the-air. Please keep in mind that this post only applies if nothing ridiculous happens between now and then…
A few other posts that you might want to read for perspective:
The next regular, active duty military payday is Tuesday, 15 October 2013. Most servicemembers will see their pay posted to the designated account some time on that day. Some banks and credit unions offer early direct deposit as a courtesy to their members. With the federal holiday on Monday, 14 October 2013, that means lots of confusion about when pay will be posted.
The most common offering is to deposit pay one business day early. With the Monday holiday, one business day early is Friday, 11 October 2013. Pacific Marine Credit Union‘s 2013 pay calendar, and shows that they will be depositing pay on Friday, 11 October 2013. USAA ’s calendar also says that they will be depositing pay Friday, 11 October 2013.
If you bank with Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU), your payday depends on the type of account into which you have your pay deposited. Keep in mind that NFCU shows the deposit as pending before it is actually posted, and you can’t spend it until it is posted! NFCU members who use Active Duty checking for their pay will see their pay pending on Thursday, 10 October 2013, to be posted overnight and available for use on Friday, 11 October 2013. NFCU members who use any other type of checking account will see their pay pending on Friday, 11 October 2013, to be deposited overnight and available for use on Saturday, 12 October 2013.
Service Credit Union offers early deposit “up to two days early,” and it is not guaranteed. One of the factors that impacts their ability to pay early is the receipt of information from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). Obviously, things with DFAS are a bit crazy right now. If you are with Service Credit Union, I can’t guess when you will be paid. However, you will absolutely be paid no later than Tuesday, 15 October 2013.
Please note that if you are paid before the weekend, it will be three weeks until your next payday on Friday, 1 November 2013. This, with the uncertainty of that paycheck, means that you really need to be thinking and spending with a plan.
